"CLARUS" what kind of name is this anyway?

Hi all- Just thought I'd start a convo about the name "Clarus". How was that decided? I haven't been on MOL for a while, but with a quick search, I couldn't find a discussion about the name.

I think it should be called The Post House. Or The Station Stop. or The Square. or The Center. or The Huge Thing. But Clarus? It sounds like a disease or something you would take to clear up a disease or zits or allergies. Or something a man would take for, um, you know...baldness. Or at the very least, it sounds like a pretend jerzey-fied pretend upscale edifice.

Is this something anyone else thinks is worth fighting over? Have we already fought over it? Is it too late? And the little graphic "C" design is sort of like weird yin yang thingie, but looks more like a virus strain.

We've got to put up with this jersey-ized building in the middle of Maplewood Ave, at least we could have naming rights.

Anyone else thinking along these lines?

It's a **** name is what it is.

I haven't heard anyone say they like the name. But I think it's also something like the 145,289th most pressing issue in Maplewood.

Hard to see anyone actually using the name once the thing is built. "Hey, let's go to the Clarus and get some Starubucks!" I suspect the name of this building won't be any more of an ongoing issue than the names of any other buildings in Maplewood Village, if any of them even have names.

What else is going in there other than the Starbucks?

Yea, but the name will probably be in big letters above the curved entry. It's just weird- completely made-up, has no connection to anything. Just a bunch of guys (yes, sorry, I think it's guys) who sat around and brain-stormed some faux-fanciness instead of finding out anything historical.

I thought of another good name...The School House.

I just don't like Clarus - but maybe I can walk bywith a black marker and put some grafiti on the posters...yea, that's the ticket. Then perhaps I'll feel better.

"Probably"? Where are you getting that information?

A Cracker Barrel and a fencing academy. Enjoy.

I don't have any information. just my imagination. I walked by today and saw the curved poured foundation at the corner, and thought 'ugh' and 'blech'. right up there with, they're probably planning on putting "CLARUS" in big letters abouve the faux-fancy curved entry. But maybe not...it's just a feeling I get when I look at the 'Welcome to the CLARUS' posters all over the fencing around the work site.

Exactly. No one says "Let's go to the Belmont and get some burgers."

It's Latin for light, clear and is meant to evoke the light-filled environment intended for the residences. I don't like the name, either, but I think it's a bit unfair to suggest they just pulled it out of nowhere without any thought.

The Post House is interesting, but I could see why someone wouldn't want to be associated with an institution that many regard as dysfunctional. And people's memories are short - for a long time, there were many threads here about how awful the retail part of that post office was, long lines etc.

Perhaps we (the public) can exact a small amount of revenge for this terrible building by naming it whatever we want and having it become the de facto name.

Yes, because that's the name of the restaurant. I suspect you have not ever heard anyone say, "Let's go to the Belmont Building and get some ice cream." Let me know when somebody opens a restaurant in the Clarus building called the Clarus Cafe and we can talk.

Let's have a contest to come up with the most amusing name for the new building.

Oh, sounds like maybe you knew someone on the naming committee. So sorry.

Another word for clear and light is Glare. Could have been called Glares R Us.

Anyway, I like The School House.

maybe they can call it Taco Trucks. Everyone likes tacos.

I know. I'm agreeing with you, but by using multiples levels of irony that only people who just got back from the UK can understand.

Everyone there will get allergy relief or clearer skin. That is what the name sounds like to me.

A farm to table restaurant

A Bank

A woman athletic clothing outlet

A dry cleaner

The shopping buses from Scranton and Chillicothe Ohio are fully subscribed for the next two years

Doesn't the developer get to decide the name?

Makes me think of Claris Works, and that's not a good thing.

Clarus - one of the lesser Egyptian Gods.

Lol! Found this...

Clarus Therapeutics is a clinical-stage pharmaceutical developing JATENZO®, a new proprietary oral T formulation to treat men diagnosed with symptomatic testosterone (T) deficiency -- a medical condition known hypogonadism.

tongue rolleye

is anyone who hates this new building going to hate it less if it has a different name? I think not.

some people are looking forward to this.

Maybe if the people of Maplewood get to name it, it'll get a cool name like, "Structure Mc Building-Face."
